What Grown Ups Know

Turn back the hands of time
No work
All play
Sit back
Rewind.

All you know is what you are told
And what you are told
Is that grown ups know
That one day too
You will grow
To know the things that grown ups know.

Take me there
Where?

The mind of a child:

Where joy and hope
Fill rose-colored dreams
And rain only falls
Into the sun’s beams.

That space in time:

Before the dollar thrived
And only the strong survived.

Memories faint
Of that place long ago
No one ever told me
This what grown ups know.

*A translation of “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein

I like the line "memories faint", because I was expecting fade.
